"Abortions Resume at Wyoming Clinic After Judge Halts Laws"

Wyoming’s only abortion clinic has resumed services after a judge temporarily blocked two state laws on Monday.

One law would have required clinics providing surgical abortions to be licensed as outpatient surgical centers. The other would have mandated that women receive an ultrasound before undergoing a medication abortion.



Wyoming Health Access in Casper had stopped offering abortions on February 28, the day after Republican Governor Mark Gordon signed the licensing requirement into law. The pause forced some women to seek abortion care out of state.

Now, with the laws suspended and legal challenges ongoing, women can once again access abortion services in central Wyoming, said Julie Burkhart, founder and president of Wellspring Health Access.

“We are immediately shouting it from the rooftop to make sure our patients know,” Burkhart said following the court ruling. “We are back to seeing patients the way we were on Feb. 27.”

Not everyone welcomed the news. Ross Schriftman, president of Natrona County Right to Life, questioned why the clinic would fight the laws if it was already providing safe care.



“The abortion business here in Casper could prove that they are providing safe services by complying with laws. Would that not make their point?” Schriftman said in an emailed statement Monday.
